Why Your Competition is Your Best Ally

Today, back for a second interview with us is Patrick Lilly, a top Real Estate Broker in Manhattan and Brooklyn and in the business since 1984. for his first 12 years in the business that while he did well, he didn’t take it seriously and thought he was “above it all.” There were some life transformation and spiritual awakenings and Patrick woke up the people and the opportunities right under his nose. His success on people and the relationships in our business changed. As a result, so did his success. We talked today about how our business can and will take off [especially] when we see the powerful truth that other agents, while we perceive them as our competition, are really a powerful ally.

• Patrick does master mind four times a year; pod cast; life coaching conference for anyone (3:53)
• Patrick talks about relationships with brokers: What you look for you will find it. Cut-throat or win-win. So, many levels that were not treating other agents properly and nice. Have good relationship, you will gain more information and also get the best deal. (6:46)
• Patrick explains “win-win” equals better deals and better business down the road in other Real Estate situations. (7:50)
• Patrick says he never thought he would stay in Real Estate. Thought it was beneath him. He changed his attitude and now some of his best friends are real estate brokers. (9:02)
• Patrick says he seeks to be consistent in how he deals with clients, vendors, and other brokers. When he became generous and compassionate, there was a huge shift in his business.  (11:25)
• Patrick says, “Today, 35 percent of his business comes from Broker to Broker referrals.” A referral from another broker is so much better because it increase your circle of influence. It’s the ultimate endorsement.  (14:11)
• Patrick says your relationship with other agents is so important because when you have a good relationship with another broker, that person will let you in during negotiations. You can do a better job for your client. (16:44)
• Patrick explain that while you build good relationships, you also don’t allow people to run over you or your clients. You hurt your clients when you break down in negotiations. (18:20)
• Patrick says today, he has his greatest joy is when he can change people’s minds about how they live in more positive ways. (22:00)
